Where’s the Value?

Where's the Value?

From time to time I get asked about our entry fee; why we have one and whether it is value for money putting wines into Winestate tastings. So I thought it was about time to set the record straight and compare what we offer to other major judging structures. The Brisbane Wine Show recently raised its entry fee for judging at its annual competition and other capital city wine shows charge a similar amount. Highlighted below are the differing promotional value of entering wine shows and/or Winestate tastings.

The Fee

Capital city wine shows now charge $80 - $90 per entry.

Winestate has an administration fee of $25 per entry.

Samples

Most wine shows ask for 4 - 6 bottles per entry. Then if you receive a gold medal (five stars) they want 12 more.

Winestate asks for two bottles per entry (in case the judges call for a second sample – due to being corked, random oxidation, leakage etc).

Value-added Promotion

Most wine shows have an exhibitors tasting after the event where other wineries can taste the wines on show. Winestate has a public tasting involving either a fundraising charity, the National Wine Centre or the Wine Society members.

Winestate has supported the following charities in the past 12 months through public tastings, subscription prizes & copies of Winestate Magazines :

  • Queen Elizabeth Hospital Research Trust
  • World Youth International (orphanages in Africa & Tibet)
  • Townsend House (provides services to hearing & visually impaired children)
  • Muscular Dystrophy Association
  • Royal Flying Doctors
  • Adelaide Festival of Arts

As well as sponsoring the National Wine Centre and hosting VIP tastings for the Adelaide Media Club, Winestate conducted The World's Greatest Shiraz Challenge in Sydney to support and coincide with Wine Australia. Winestate also worked in close association with the team at Wine Australia to promote the event within the magazine, web site and the Wine & Spirit Insider.

Advanced Trade Information

Winestate sends out the results of recommended wines in advance to Liquor retailers so that they can place orders prior to our publications arriving at newsstands. Our list contains winery contact information so it is easy for the stores to place orders.

Point of Sale

We can supply additional copies of our Wine & Spirit Insider section as a run -on for your sales team to set up promotional displays and show retailers that your products are being promoted.

Third Party Endorsement

Our reputation of fearless independence and calling it how we see it, built up over 28 years gives your product the credibility and the independent voice to move recommended products into bars, restaurants, and liquor stores.

Conclusion

If you win a medal at a wine show there is little or no promotion of that achievement (unless you win best wine in show). Leaving you to do your own promotion.

With Winestate, all star rated wines from three stars up, are promoted in the magazine to a readership of 100,000 readers.

For only $100 you can enter four wines in a Winestate tasting that reaches 100,000 readers, with no extra work on your part. We believe that this offers excellent promotional value in promoting your brands.
